Have you recently experienced a last-minute flight cancellation?
When a flight is suddenly cancelled, it can be incredibly inconvenient, especially if you have other travel arrangements or connecting flights. However, there’s a positive side – as a passenger, you are protected by the Pegasus flight cancellation policy and EU/UK regulations on certain Pegasus flights. These regulations have been in place for over a decade, ensuring that if Pegasus cancels your flight, they are obligated to provide you with a suitable solution.
The EU/UK law applies to Pegasus flights departing from Europe.
1. Pegasus Flight Cancellation: Last-Minute Flight Cancellation
If you’re faced with a last-minute flight cancellation by Pegasus, you have rights.
Pegasus is not an EU airline. And EU laws do not apply to all their flights. Yet, there’s a bright side! If your flight is leaving from a European airport (including UK airports), you’re safeguarded by EU law, specifically Regulation (EC) No 261/2004. Rest assured, your rights are well-protected under such scenarios.
- If the flight cancellation results in a prolonged delay at the airport, you are entitled to a right to care. For example, if the delay extends to 3 hours, you should receive a meal voucher. If the delay necessitates an overnight stay, you should receive free hotel accommodation and transportation.
- If you decide not to take the replacement flight offered, you have the right to a full refund from Pegasus. You can opt for a refund either as a bank transfer or as a Pegasus voucher.
- Assuming it’s a last-minute flight cancellation (i.e., flight cancelled within 2 weeks of the original departure date), and it’s due to Pegasus’ fault, you can demand flight cancellation compensation from Pegasus.
If a connecting flight is missed due to a cancellation on your Pegasus flight, you may be entitled to compensation. Refer to our Pegasus missed connection compensation guide for more information. The regulations are essentially the same as those for flight delays. You must determine how much later you reach your destination compared to your original arrival time.
The compensation rules apply to Pegasus flights departing from Europe.
By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.
2. What to Do if Your Flight Is Cancelled Last-Minute?
Have you experienced a last-minute flight cancellation? What should you do?
Your response to an unexpected cancellation hinges on your current location. The necessary actions differ if you are already at the airport versus if you’re still at home or your hotel.
2.1 If You Are Still at Home or Hotel
Should you find out about your flight’s cancellation while still at home, it’s best to stay put until you receive more information. Get in touch with Pegasus’ customer service to find out what steps you should take next.
As mentioned earlier, Pegasus will assist you by providing information on available alternatives. Depending on flight availability, you may have the option to depart on the same day or the next. Additionally, you can consider booking a flight with another airline.
If your flight is cancelled due to the airline’s fault, you might be entitled to receive flight cancellation compensation from the airline.
2.2 If You Are Already at the Airport
If you find out about a flight cancellation when arriving at the airport, don’t go through airport security. You will get a new flight. Getting a replacement flight means you’ll have to check in again, get a new boarding pass, re-check your baggage. If you have already cleared security, strive to return to the public access area of the airport.
It is essential to liaise with Pegasus’ representatives at the airport to ascertain your next steps. They are there to assist you. Keep in mind that you have a right to care.
If your flight is cancelled due to the airline’s fault, you might be entitled to receive flight cancellation compensation from the airline.
3. Pegasus Flight Cancellation Compensation
The UK/EU has established clear rules concerning flight compensation.
Should your flight be cancelled less than 2 weeks before the planned departure date, it’s classified as a last-minute flight cancellation, making you potentially eligible for compensation.
Your flight is cancelled 7 – 14 days before the scheduled time of departure:
- You accept a replacement flight from Pegasus, departing no more than 2 hours of the original time and arriving at your destination no later than 4 hours of the original arrival time. In such cases, you are not owed any compensation.
- In all other instances, you are eligible for compensation.
Your flight is cancelled less than 7 days before the scheduled time of departure:
- You agree to a new flight from Pegasus, departing no more than 1 hour of the original time and arriving at your destination no later than 2 hours of the original arrival time. In these scenarios, no compensation is due.
- For all other scenarios, you are eligible for compensation.
Requirements to claim compensation include:
- Flight cancelled due to a fault on Pegasus’ part;

4. Pegasus Flight Cancellation Refund
If Pegasus cancels your flight, you have the choice to either accept an alternative flight offer or a full refund. Choosing a refund implies that the amount can either be credited back to your bank account or you can ask for it to be issued as a Pegasus voucher.
This choice is dependent on what best aligns with your travel requirements.
Refunds from Pegasus are typically processed within 7 days. It’s important to note that the right to a refund and the right to compensation are separate entitlements under UK/EU air passenger rights law. So, even if you request a refund, you may still be eligible for compensation, depending on the specific circumstances of your flight cancellation, as we discussed earlier.
