Pegasus Denied Boarding Compensation

Pegasus overbooking compensation / denied boarding compensation.

How much is flight overbooking compensation? Rules? How to get it?

Airlines often overbook their flights. They do it to maximise their flight capacity in the event of no-shows. But what if too many people show up for their flight? Unfortunately, some passengers have to be denied boarding. The good news is — In Europe, passengers are protected against denied boarding. If you are denied boarding due to overbooking, you might be entitled to denied boarding compensation. Even if you are travelling with Pegasus, a non-European airline.

In case of Pegasus, the regulations apply to their flights from the EU, and the UK.

There are two ways you can claim this compensation.

1. Pegasus Overbooking Compensation: EU / UK Denied Boarding Regulations

Have you been denied boarding by Pegasus?

What are your rights in case of boarding denial? Can you get a new flight ticket? Are you entitled to Pegasus denied boarding compensation? In short — if it’s due to overbooking, you are protected under European laws. You are entitled to receive care from the airline. And in some situations — to compensation.

It applies to all Pegasus flights departing from Europe, and to all passengers on these flights.

If you’re flying with Pegasus, and you are denied boarding due to overbooking — you might be entitled to flight overbooking compensation (EU denied boarding compensation) of up to €600.

This only applies to overbookings.

If your passport is about to expire, or you don’t have a visa, it might result in denied boarding. In this case, you aren’t entitled to denied boarding compensation. Also you aren’t entitled to compensation if you voluntarily give up your seat.

By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.

1.1 Voluntary Denied Boarding

What is voluntary denied boarding?

As the name suggests, this is when you voluntarily give up your seat and agree to travel later, on another flight. Whenever there is an overbooking, and too many people show up, airline staff looks for volunteers ready to travel later. The volunteers are given a free flight, free meal, instant compensation, and, if the wait is long, a free hotel stay.

If you agree to an offer like this, it’s called voluntary boarding denial.

In this case, you aren’t entitled to denied boarding compensation from Pegasus.

You don’t have to agree to an offer like this.

1.2 Involuntary Denied Boarding

There are situations when you don’t have a choice.

If there are not enough volunteers, the airline will still bump people. Even if they don’t agree to be denied boarding. This is called involuntarily denied boarding.

If you are denied boarding involuntarily, you have a right to denied boarding compensation from Pegasus.

What happens in case of involuntary denied boarding?

  • The airline must provide you with a new flight or give you a full refund;
  • In addition to that, you are entitled to receive care from the airline*;
  • You are entitled to Pegasus denied boarding compensation up to €600 per passenger.

With Pegasus all of this apply to flights departing from Europe.

* Pegasus must offer you free meals and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time, two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes. If you have to wait overnight, Pegasus must provide you with free accommodation and free transfer from and to the airport.

1.3 Right to Care

If you are stranded at the airport, you have a right to care from the airline.

If you have been denied boarding, and now you have to wait at the airport for 3+ hours, you have a right to receive care from Pegasus.

What does it mean for you as a passenger?

Pegasus must offer you free meals and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time, two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes. If the new flight offered by the airline leaves only on the next day, the airline has to offer you a free hotel stay and free airport transfer.

Agreeing to these free services doesn’t affect your chances of getting compensation.

In case of Pegasus, the EU/UK Flight Compensation Regulations apply to its flights from the European Union and the UK.

The regulations also apply to flight cancellation and flight delay.

2.1 How Long Does It Take?

It depends on the airline.

Overall, it’s not a very difficult, but rather lengthy process.

If everything goes well, you might receive the money after 2-3 months.

If the airline refuses to cooperate, or wrongly denies your claim, you will need to take your case to a national enforcement body or court. If this is the case, you might get your money only after a few months.

3. How Much Can You Claim?

In the EU and the UK compensation amounts are fixed.

In most situations they range from €250 to €600.

Here is how you can calculate Pegasus compensation:

When your destination is within the EU/UK:

€250

If the distance of your flight is
up to 1,500 km

€400

If the distance of your flight is between 1,500 – 3,500 km

When your destination is outside the EU/UK:

€250

If the distance of your flight is
up to 1,500 km

€400

If the distance of your flight is between 1,500 – 3,500 km

€600

If the distance of your flight is more than 3,500 km

This is also the amount you should be demanding, if claiming flight overbooking compensation yourself. Otherwise, the airline might offer you a smaller compensation. If this happens, you don’t have to agree to a smaller compensation. Request the right amount.

There’s one exception. When the flight distance is 3500+ kilometres and you reach your destination 3 to 4 hours later than planned, you are entitled only to 50% of the compensation amount (that means €300, not €600).

3.1 Pegasus Voucher Code, Discounts or Cash?

What if you are offered an airline voucher instead of compensation?

Pegasus also offers vouchers and coupons to passengers when compensation is due. Do you have to accept vouchers from the airline? No. Ask for a bank transfer instead.

According to the law, compensations have to be paid in cash or by bank transfer. Not in coupons or discount codes.

Keep in mind that this applies only to Pegasus flights from Europe.

On other flights you might not have a choice.
