Pegasus Damaged Baggage Compensation

Pegasus damaged baggage compensation.

Ever wondered if you’re eligible for compensation? What’s the protocol?

Baggage damage is not rare. We’re not talking about minor scratches or small dents. These are the usual signs of wear and tear on your suitcase that Pegasus doesn’t cover. However, Pegasus can be held responsible for major damage like broken wheels and handles, or significant issues such as holes or even cracks.

What to do if your luggage is damaged?

What to Do If Your Luggage Is Damaged?

First and foremost, report the damage.

Avoid exiting the baggage claim area (baggage hall), and try to locate the Baggage Service Office. It’s typically situated in the baggage hall adjacent to the baggage conveyors. Here, you can lodge a report for damage to your baggage.

Have your passport and boarding pass ready. Bring your damaged bag. Complete the report and you’ll be guided on the next steps. Generally, the airline will fix your bag for free. If your suitcase or bag is beyond repair, Pegasus will issue a refund for the damaged bag, allowing you to purchase a replacement.

After a getting a damage report at the airport, you may need to make a claim online.

Pegasus Damaged Baggage Compensation

What rights do you have if your baggage is damaged?

Could you potentially receive Pegasus damaged baggage compensation?

Damaged Baggage Compensation

If your checked baggage has been damaged, you might be eligible for compensation.

Pegasus is liable for this, and you might get compensation up to €1300.

The compensation amount will be determined by the value of your damaged baggage. It’s intended to cover your costs of obtaining a new bag of the same value.

Ensure to lodge your Pegasus compensation claim.

The airline must deposit this compensation in your bank account. You’re not obligated to accept Pegasus compensation vouchers, miles or coupons. Note that it’s advised against transporting electronics, art, jewellery, etc., in your checked baggage, as Pegasus doesn’t bear the responsibility to compensate for the total value of such items, only up to the level defined by the Montreal Convention and their Conditions of Carriage.

If the damage stems from a defect in the bag itself, you won’t be eligible for compensation. Also, Pegasus is not responsible for minor damage such as scratches, small dents, and other (typical) signs of wear on your suitcase. Regrettably, these are the realities of air travel.

Reimbursement of Expenses

If your bag is damaged, you can’t claim for reimbursement for your expenses.

However, if your baggage is lost or delayed, and you need to replace any essential items, you are entitled to reimbursement for your expenses (sometimes referred to as delayed baggage compensation). You purchase all these vital items, then lodge a claim providing all the receipts, and Pegasus reimburses you.

You have 21 days from the day you receive your misplaced baggage to lodge a claim for reimbursement. However, this applies only when your baggage is lost or delayed.

Is Travel Insurance Necessary?

Is insurance necessary to claim Pegasus damaged baggage compensation?

No. You can certainly travel without it.  Due to the Montreal Convention, a condition concerned with the transportation of baggage, Pegasus is accountable for your baggage and its secure arrival. This treaty is applied to the majority of Pegasus’s international flights and other airlines globally.

However, having an insurance policy is always beneficial.

Having insurance can speed up the compensation process. If you report damage to your baggage, contact your travel insurance company for guidance. Depending on your policy, your insurance may cover the cash value or the cost of your baggage. Remember to keep the documents you receive from the Baggage Service Office for making a claim.

Remember, not all insurance plans cover baggage damage. It’s advisable to verify this in advance to avoid unnecessary stress and surprises later.

Travel Prepared

Having a Plan B is always wise.

Because damage to baggage does happen.

For this reason, it is suggested to have an extra set of clothes and underwear in your carry-on bag in case your suitcase or its contents get damaged. Also, avoid packing valuable items, cash, medications, documents, and credit cards in your checked bag. If your bag gets severely damaged (with big holes or cracks), its contents might also be affected, resulting in the loss of some items.

It’s a good idea to bring a packable or foldable duffle bag just in case your baggage gets severely damaged. You can transfer your items to this bag if needed. And if you don’t end up using it for that purpose, the packable duffle bag can provide extra space for your baggage at the end of your journey.

What is your experience with baggage damage and Pegasus? Have you ever received damaged baggage compensation from Pegasus or another airline?

Note that in this case, with Pegasus compensation for damaged baggage, just like in many other situations we are talking about on this website, it doesn’t apply only to Pegasus. Rules are the same for other airlines as well. In this case, that’s because of the Montreal Convention, a treaty that applies to the carriage of baggage. It applies to most international flights of Pegasus and other airlines around the world.
