Pegasus refund. Pegasus flight cancellation compensation.
In which situations are you entitled to flight cancellation compensation? When can you get a refund? In which situations are you entitled to both — refund and compensation? Which Pegasus flights are covered by European regulations? In this article, we are going to answer these questions. Keep in mind that even though Pegasus is not a European airline, there are situations when you can receive a refund from Pegasus or compensation up to €600. Or both.
With Pegasus it applies to flights from the EU, EEA, and the UK.
There are two ways you can claim flight cancellation compensation.
1. Pegasus Flight Cancellation Compensation: EU / UK Regulations
What happens if your Pegasus flight is cancelled?
What are your rights in the event of flight cancellation? Will the airline book you on a new flight free of charge? Can you request a refund? Are you entitled to flight cancellation compensation from Pegasus?
According to EU law, flight cancellation procedures are very specific.
If you are notified of the cancellation 7 – 14 days before the departure:
- You choose a new flight offered by your airline, which departs not more than 2 hours before the original departure time and you reach your destination less than 4 hours after the original arrival time. In this situation you are not entitled to compensation.
- In other situations you are entitled to compensation.
If you are notified of the cancellation less than 7 days before the departure:
- You choose a new flight offered by your airline, which departs not more than 1 hour before the original departure time and you reach your destination less than 2 hours after the original arrival time. In this situation you are not entitled to compensation.
- In other situations you are entitled to compensation.
Could you be entitled to Pegasus flight cancellation compensation?
Yes, if your Pegasus flight is:
- Cancelled due to the fault of Pegasus;
- Cancelled last-minute (0-14 days before departure);
- Departing from Europe.
Pegasus is a Turkish airline. They have to comply with European regulations only on their flights departing from Europe.
By Europe and EU here on this page (and on this website in general) we mean all EU Member States, the United Kingdom (UK), Guadeloupe, French Guiana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte, Saint Martin (French Antilles), the Azores, Madeira, the Canary Islands, Iceland, Norway, and Switzerland.
1.1 Extraordinary Circumstances
Sometimes reasons for flight cancellations are out of the airline’s control.
Situations like these are called ‘extraordinary circumstances’. In such cases, you aren’t entitled to flight cancellation compensation no matter how last-minute is the cancellation. It isn’t the airline’s fault, hence you can’t receive flight compensation.
If your flight is cancelled due to bad weather, natural disaster, nationwide strike (not related to the airline), security issues at the airport, terrorism threat, civil or political unrest, you can’t get compensation for your cancelled flight.
And, yes, make sure to double check what you’re told.
Because not always airlines are telling the truth. Extraordinary circumstances can be used to deny flight compensation. Airlines often claim that flight delay and cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances, even if it wasn’t. Always double check if your flight was indeed cancelled because of extraordinary circumstances.
Also don’t believe when airlines tell you that technical problems are extraordinary circumstances, too. Because they’re not. Most technical problems with are considered the airline’s fault.
Feeling stuck? Your case is going nowhere?

1.2 Right to Care
Your Pegasus flight is cancelled last-minute.
Now you have to wait at the airport for a replacement flight.
In this case, if your flight is from Europe, and if the waiting time is 3+ hours, you have a right to care from the airline. This means that you can receive certain services for free.
Pegasus must offer you free meals and drinks in a reasonable relation to the waiting time, two free phone calls, e-mails or faxes. If your new flight is leaving only on the next day, a free hotel stay (including free transfer) must be offered.
It doesn’t affect your chances of getting compensation.
1.3 Pegasus Flight Cancellation Refund, Pegasus Refund Policy
And again, in Europe, rules regarding refunds are very specific.
Besides, they aren’t affected by Pegasus refund policy.
If your Pegasus flight departs from Europe, you are protected by European flight compensation regulations. If your flight is cancelled (no matter the reason), Pegasusshould offer you a choice between a new flight or a full refund.
If you choose a refund, it must be paid to your bank account within 7 days.
In addition to that, you might have a right to Pegasus flight cancellation compensation.
Here’s an excerpt from the Regulation (EC) No 261/2004:
Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, Article 5
Cancellation
In case of cancellation of a flight, the passengers concerned shall: (a) be offered assistance by the operating air carrier in accordance with Article 8.
Regulation (EC) No 261/2004, Article 8
Right to reimbursement or re-routing
Where reference is made to this Article, passengers shall be offered the choice between: (a) – reimbursement within seven days (b) re-routing, under comparable transport conditions, to their final destination at the earliest opportunity.
It doesn’t cover situations when you cancel your Pegasus flight.

2.1 How Long Does It Take?
If everything goes smoothly — 2 to 3 months.
But unfortunately it’s not always the case. The airline might refuse to cooperate, and you will need to work with a national enforcement body, or even worse — take your case to court. Both of which usually add another 2-3 months, sometimes 6+ months, to the whole process.
That’s why it’s such a lengthy process.
3. How Much Can You Claim?
The compensation amount in Europe is up to €600 per person.
Here is how you can calculate your Pegasus compensation:
When your destination is within the EU/UK:
€250
If the distance of your flight is
up to 1,500 km
€400
If the distance of your flight is between 1,500 – 3,500 km
When your destination is outside the EU/UK:
€250
If the distance of your flight is
up to 1,500 km
€400
If the distance of your flight is between 1,500 – 3,500 km
€600
If the distance of your flight is more than 3,500 km
There’s one exception. When the flight distance is 3500+ kilometres and you reach your destination 3 to 4 hours later than planned, you are entitled only to 50% of the compensation amount (that means €300, not €600).
3.1 Pegasus Voucher Refund or Cash?
What if you are offered an airline voucher instead of compensation?
Pegasus also offers vouchers and coupons once in a while. Do you have to accept a Pegasus compensation voucher? No, you don’t have to accept it. Ask for a bank transfer instead. Because, according to European regulations, you are entitled to cash or bank transfer.
However, as with everything we have talked here, this applies only to Pegasus flights departing from Europe. On other flights you may not have a choice.
4. What Happens If a Flight Is Cancelled?
What to do if your Pegasus flight is cancelled?
First of all, contact Pegasus. You might have already received an email from them, explaining the situation and your options, including information about replacement flight and flight cancellation refund.
If you are already at the airport, and it’s a very last-minute cancellation, there’s nothing you can do but wait for an announcement from the airline. Stay at the public access area of the airport while waiting for the announcement. You will be booked on a new flight, and you will need to check in for that flight.
In most cases, you’ll be given a choice between a new flight and full refund. If you choose a refund, keep in mind that it should be made to your bank account within 7 days. You don’t have to accept any vouchers.
If it’s a Pegasus flight from Europe, and it’s cancelled less than 2 weeks before the date of departure, you might be entitled to European flight cancellation compensation. As long as the reason for cancellation was within the airline’s control (not extraordinary circumstances).

4.1 Connecting Flights
Do you need to be on time for another flight?
If it’s a Pegasus connecting flight, don’t worry. If you miss your connection because your previous flight was delayed or cancelled, the airline will book you on another flight free of charge. It’s their responsibility.
Even though Pegasus is a low-cost airline, it offers protected connecting flights. If you have booked a Pegasus connection under one booking reference number (as a single itinerary), it’s a protected connecting flight. You don’t have to worry about missing a connection.
But if it’s a self transfer (separately booked flights), it’s your responsibility. Even if those are separately booked Pegasus flights. If it’s not under one booking reference number, it’s not a protected connecting flight. The airline is not responsible for DIY connecting flights (flights booked separately).
If you miss your self transfer, you will need to book a new flight yourself.
